Fire Protection. Overload Fault Circuit Interrupter Technology (OFCI) SafePlug receptacles employ OFCI technology to detect dangerous high resistance connections, high line voltages and appliance overloads. OFCI technology continuously monitors the line voltage and the circuit’s resistance. OFCI disconnects power to the “load” (the electronic device) when dangerous conditions exist, reducing the chance of fire.
A SafePlug receptacle contains a microprocessor that electronically reads the safe operating limit of the appliance from a memory chip (RightPlugTM technology) found in a SafePlug Tag.
The SafePlug receptacle then continuously monitors the power consumption of the electronic device, measuring the devices’ current draw and comparing it to its safe operating limit. In the event of an overload (excess current), the SafePlug receptacle will shut off power to the device before the wires can overheat and cause fire.
SafePlug receptacles control each socket independently. If an overload occurs, SafePlug receptacles only turns off the faulty device; household devices plugged into the other receptacle socket continue to receive power and operate normally.
Additionally, SafePlug receptacles measures the summed amount of current drawn though its two receptacles. If the total current draw exceeds 15 Amps, it shuts off the electricity to prevent overheating the house wiring on that circuit. In case the homeowner accidentally replaced a blown fuse or circuit breaker with the wrong size, SafePlug receptacles help limit the current on that circuit. This feature provides excellent protection for older houses where undersized wiring and improper breaker/fuse replacement are often identified as causes of fires.
An LED light next to each socket indicates its status. A green light shows that the SafePlug receptacle is delivering electricity to that socket. A red warning light immediately alerts you to danger and helps you identify the danger.
Shock Protection. Shock Fault Circuit Interrupter (SFCI) SafePlug receptacles use SFCI technology to keep the electricity OFF at each outlet socket until a valid appliance plug is inserted. That means if a child inserts an object into the SafePlug receptacle the electricity is simply not there!
Here's how it works...
1) Plug-in and secure your SafePlug receptacle right over your existing standard in-wall outlet! Power is now OFF at the SafePlug receptacle sockets.
The SafePlug 1200 receptacle plugs directly into you existing wall outlet!
The SafePlug 1200 receptacle screws securely into place. Power at sockets is OFF.
2) Now, you may have been wondering, "How do my appliances get power if there is no electricity at the receptacles?". Well, It's as easy as peel and stick. You simply need to add a SafePlug Tag to the end of your appliance plug. (SafePlug Tags are encoded with RightPlug wireless technology)
Regular appliance
plug.
Peel adhesive backing and slide Tag over
plug blades.
The SafePlug Tag securely adheres to plug face.
3) Then, just insert your tagged appliance plug into a SafePlug receptacle. The SafePlug receptacle detects the valid SafePlug Tag and turns power ON to that particular socket. The power to the other receptacle remains OFF.
The SafePlug receptacle detects the tagged appliance plug and turns power ON to the appliance.
A Green LED illuminates* to let you know power is ON at that particular receptacle only.
The unused receptacle remains OFF! (no green LED)
*Green LED brightness is exaggerated for demonstration purposes.
When the device is unplugged the SafePlug receptacle turns the power back OFF automatically.
Power Protection Power Fault Circuit Interrupter Technology (PFCI) SafePlug receptacles protect your appliances and electronics from damage caused by brown-outs, black-outs and high line conditions. SafePlug receptacles contain patented PFCI technology. A PFCI acts like a “firewall” for unacceptable line voltages. The PFCI disconnects the power from your electronics and appliances if the power supplied rises above or drops below danger thresholds.
In addition to the PFCI technology, a surge protector absorbs large voltage spikes before they can attack your appliances and electronics.
Multiple SafePlug receptacles can work together to create aweb of surge protection for the whole house. A multiple SafePlug system stops surges better than the best individual surge suppressor products. A house fully equipped with SafePlug receptacles can withstand up to 6,000 Joules of surge energy…up to 10X more than a high quality dedicated surge protector.
When the line voltage returns back to an acceptable level, the PFCI holds the power off to the appliance for several more seconds. During this period, the PFCI monitors the line voltage. If the voltage level stays stable, then the PFCI turns on power to the appliance. If the line voltage level continues to be unstable, PFCI continues to shield your appliance.
Why the turn-on delay? When power returns to the grid after a black-out, your home can see very high-energy surges associated with start up. Power often quickly toggles on and back off several times. PFCI hides your appliances from these very high-energy surges. SafePlug receptacles can save you thousands of dollars of damage to electronics and appliances during power-on after a black out condition.
